Storied public sale home Sotheby’s offered 500 items of generative artwork in lower than an hour for $1.2 million.
Created by the artist Vera Molnár and christened Themes and Variations, each bit of digital artwork was “minted instantly upon buy,” Sotheby’s stated in a press release, including that buying and selling quantity on the secondary market had totaled 400 ether (about $754,000) within the hours following the public sale.
Sotheby’s introduced the launch of its generative artwork program final month. Regardless of a downturn in NFT gross sales, the public sale home has not too long ago been fairly profitable when auctioning off digital works, together with a set that after belonged to the failed hedge fund Three Arrows Capital.
The public sale home stated that the sale of Themes and Variations “opened with a ceiling worth of 20 ether” ($37,600).
